The news that a ceasefire has been reached and hostages are to be released has brought a “bag of mixed emotions” to the family of Itay Chen, a U.S.-Israeli soldier with the Israel Defense Forces, his father, Ruby Chen, told Newsmax Sunday.
Itay Chen, 19, was reportedly killed on Oct. 7, 2023, during the Hamas assault on Israel, but his father said on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America Weekend” that there is a possibility that his son is still alive and being held hostage instead, so his family is “stuck in limbo.”
“Hamas has not provided any indication, any statement about his physical status and the way that we see it, more than anything, what defines him at the moment is that he’s a hostage and we’re stuck in limbo like we’ve kind of been beamed up to an alternative universe,” the father said. “We need to know what happened.”
