Actor Mel Gibson said he was “surprised” that President-elect Donald Trump named him a “special ambassador” to Hollywood, but is ready to embrace the title. 

The “Braveheart” star spoke with Variety about the role shortly after Trump made the announcement last week.

“I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can,” Gibson told the outlet.
